Maxillofacial Surgeon Lydia Lim

Dr Lim graduated with honours from the University of Sydney and completed her postgraduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Sydney. She holds the specialist qualification FRACDS (OMS) and a Master of Dental Science from the University of Sydney. Dr Lim furthered her surgical training in the United States as a Clinical Fellow at the University of Texas, Houston.

Dr Lim is one of Sydney’s leading orthognathic surgeons. Her emphasis is on combining the science and art of jaw surgery to achieve functional correction with natural and refined facial aesthetic outcomes. Her ortho-facial approach considers the face, airway, bite and temporomandibular joints as an integrated whole. Dr Lim has been at the forefront in Australia of applying “counter-clockwise rotation” - a sophisticated aesthetic planning technique that optimises the profile, jawline definition and airway in selected patients. Dr Lim’s expertise in orthognathic surgery extends to patients with cleft and craniofacial syndromes and challenging reconstructive deformities. She uses advanced techniques including distraction osteogenesis, virtual surgical planning, patient-specific implants and combined temporomandibular joint replacement with orthognathic surgery. Her work also encompasses maxillomandibular advancement surgery for select patients with obstructive sleep apnoea.

In 2025, Dr Lim was honoured to be awarded the “Distinguished Service Award” by the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the peak professional body of the specialty, in recognition of her leadership, education and long-standing service to the profession.

Dr Lim is a frequent invited lecturer at national and international scientific meetings. She is often invited to speak outside her own specialty, including at plastic and facial plastic surgery conferences - reflecting the growing recognition of skeletal surgery in facial aesthetic planning.
